National League of Pen Women - Atlanta, GA Branch
Events

The three goals for programming are: To inspire, to learn, and to celebrate the uniqueness of each member. With the local community rich in the arts, the Atlanta Branch has called upon a number of outstanding speakers to highlight what is happening in contemporary art, music, and literature in Georgia.

PROGRAMS AND SPEAKERS 2006-2007

Columbus Branch President, Georgia State President and National President of NLAPW joined Atlanta Branch for our February meeting.

January 2007: Laura Jackson, Assistant Conductor and American Conducting Fellow at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, entertained and educated us about her experiences as one of the only female symphony conductors in America. Ms. Jackson has conducted all across the U.S. and in Canada.

National President Elaine Waidelich informed us about future plans for the Pen Women organization.

February 2007: National League of American Pen Women, Inc. President Elaine Waidelich visited our Atlanta branch for a couple of delightful days. The Board held a cocktail party in her honor and Ms. Waidelich spoke to the lunch meeting about the future and goals of NLAPW.

Mary Jane Stone won the first place ribbon in the watercolor category for her beautiful mahonia holly.

March 2007: Dozens of impressive works of art were displayed at our annual Members Art Show luncheon at the Ansley Golf Club. There were several categories including sculpture, photography, oils, acrylics, watercolors and mixed media. Ribbons were awarded in each category, a Best of Show and a People’s Choice Award.

April 2007: We met at our beautiful Nature Garden in Stone Mountain Park to dedicate nine new pathway stones to members. Then we moved to the Confederate Hall education building and were treated to a presentation on wildflowers of rock outcrops given by well-known wildflower expert, David Funderburk.

Nine members added stones to our Pen Women Nature Garden in Stone Mountain Park in April bringing our total to 91 stones.

Since 1964 the Nature Garden has been a peaceful and inspiring place to renew the creative spirit.
