Events
The three goals for programming
are: To inspire, to learn, and to celebrate the
uniqueness of each member. With the local community rich in the
arts, the Atlanta Branch has called upon a number of outstanding
speakers to highlight what is happening in contemporary art,
music, and literature in Georgia.
PROGRAMS AND SPEAKERS 2006-2007
September 2006: Atlanta
attorney Anne Marie Ring advised our members about current
copyright and trademark issues and how to protect our
intellectual property rights. It was a very informative meeting
for artists, musicians and writers.
October 2006: Vally
Sharpe, CEO and Creative Director of United Writers Press, Inc.
spoke about self-publishing in today’s market.

Columbus Branch President, Georgia State President
and National President of NLAPW joined Atlanta
Branch for our February meeting. |
November 2006: A branch
brainstorm session was held to discuss upcoming projects and
long-range goals of the branch. Members also shared recent and
current projects of their own.
December 2006:
Award-winning author and journalist Sandra Mackey shared her
extraordinary experiences as a reporter in the Middle-East. Ms.
Mackey has written numerous books on the subjects of Middle
Eastern culture and politics. She served as a commentator for
CNN on the Gulf War.
January 2007: Laura
Jackson, Assistant Conductor and American Conducting Fellow at
the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, entertained and educated us
about her experiences as one of the only female symphony
conductors in America. Ms. Jackson has conducted all across the
U.S. and in Canada.

National President Elaine Waidelich informed us
about future plans for the Pen Women organization. |
February 2007: National
League of American Pen Women, Inc. President Elaine Waidelich
visited our Atlanta branch for a couple of delightful days. The
Board held a cocktail party in her honor and Ms. Waidelich spoke
to the lunch meeting about the future and goals of NLAPW.

Mary
Jane Stone won the first place ribbon in the
watercolor category for her beautiful mahonia holly. |
March 2007: Dozens of
impressive works of art were displayed at our annual Members Art
Show luncheon at the Ansley Golf Club. There were several
categories including sculpture, photography, oils, acrylics,
watercolors and mixed media. Ribbons were awarded in each
category, a Best of Show and a People’s Choice Award.
April 2007: We met at our
beautiful Nature Garden in Stone Mountain Park to dedicate nine
new pathway stones to members. Then we moved to the Confederate
Hall education building and were treated to a presentation on
wildflowers of rock outcrops given by well-known wildflower
expert, David Funderburk.

Nine
members added stones to our Pen Women Nature Garden
in Stone Mountain Park in April bringing our total
to 91 stones. |
Since 1964 the Nature Garden has been a peaceful and
inspiring place to renew the creative spirit. |
May 2007: Our annual
Community Awards Luncheon honored three outstanding women who
have made contributions to the arts in the Atlanta area.
